Bret Cook was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. After completing music school and earning a degree in performance and pedagogy, Bret pursued law school. Upon returning home, he clerked for the Honorable Ralph R. Beistline and later practiced with Cook Schuhmann & Groseclose, Inc. in a general civil litigation practice.
In 2003, Bret, along with his wife Debbie and their four daughters, relocated to the small town of Greenville, California in the Sierras. There, Bret established a solo practice, focusing on civil litigation, real estate, estate planning, probate, personal injury, appeals, and family law. The family expanded to six with the addition of two boys, and both Bret’s practice and the family flourished in the close-knit community.
In 2021, tragedy struck as the Dixie Fire destroyed the Cooks’ home and Bret’s office in Greenville, devastating Plumas County. Through a family connection, Bret Cook met Brett Parkinson and partnered with PBP to assist his clients, friends, and neighbors in recovering from the Dixie Fire. Additionally, Bret collaborated with PBP on the Mill Fire and McKinney Fire cases, continuing to serve his clients in Plumas County. Throughout his career, Bret has represented large corporations and governmental entities, but he has always found the most meaningful connections in representing individuals and families, especially in helping them recover from the tragedy of a wildfire.
Outside the office, Bret enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, attempting to master Asian cuisine, and listening to a diverse range of music.
